Jon Rahm urges LIV Golf to rethink a key aspect ahead of the 2026 season

While there are still plenty of questions about whether Jon Rahm’s move to LIV Golf was the right choice for his career, there is no doubt he has found success since making the switch.

When Rahm joined, LIV Golf looked set for a boost. He was coming off a Masters win and was widely considered the top player in the world at that time.

Some point to his underwhelming major results in recent years as evidence that leaving the PGA Tour was a mistake. But within LIV itself, Rahm has clearly thrived.

The 31-year-old has won back-to-back individual titles since joining. But that success created an unexpected issue for LIV heading into 2025.

Rahm’s win came in a year when, for the first time as a professional, he did not claim a single individual event victory.

Making it even stranger, Joaquin Niemann picked up five wins that season. But because of Niemann’s inconsistency elsewhere, Rahm still finished on top of the season standings.

While chatting on Subpar, Rahm was asked whether he would prefer two tournament wins over securing the individual title without any victories.

He responded by saying he would like to see changes to how points are distributed in LIV events.

“I’ve wrestled with that thought, because I did lose in two playoffs back to back at the end. Little unlucky against Sebastian [Munoz] on that playoff hole, I hit the pin. It’s tough because I’ve played good.

“I would say winning the individual doesn’t have the same weight that it did last year without having won, especially with Joaquin winning five times. You can make an argument there that maybe he was more deserving. I’m not in charge of the points system.

“I hope so [that they change the points system]. I know I’m consistent, but when somebody wins more than a third of the tournaments – it’s not like we’re playing 40, we’re playing 13 events, if he wins more than a third of them, he should probably run away with it,” the Spaniard stated.

It is a close call. To their credit, LIV did manage to create a dramatic finish to the season, with both Niemann and Rahm still in the mix going into the final event.

If Niemann had been awarded more points for his wins, it could have taken some of the excitement out of the title race. But when you look at the full picture, Rahm was clearly the top performer on LIV in 2025.

According to Data Golf, he ranked inside the top 10 across every strokes gained category and was second off the tee and around the greens. If he keeps up this level of play, it is only a matter of time before he strings together multiple wins in a single season.
