OWGR meeting places LIV Golf status under review
The Official World Golf Rankings board is expected to convene on Wednesday, with LIV Golf’s status a central topic of interest.
Although LIV’s application is not formally listed on the agenda, a decision could come before the end of the week.
OWGR chairman Trevor Immelman has confirmed that discussions with LIV Golf remain ongoing, which could have a bearing on the final decision.
Given the struggles LIV Golf have had to start the year, most notably with Brooks Koepka’s exit and return to the PGA Tour, a decision in their favor would be massively beneficial.
Why the OWGR decision matters for professional golf
The outcome could directly affect LIV Golf players’ access to major championships and other elite events tied to world ranking positions. LIV players have not earned ranking points since the league’s launch.
According to Associated Press reporting, a decision could be nearing, though no formal timeline has been confirmed.
LIV Golf reapplied after an initial rejection and has since made several changes aimed at meeting OWGR criteria.
Those changes include moving to 72-hole events, expanding field sizes, adding a promotion pathway, and transitioning leadership away from Greg Norman.
