Bryson DeChambeau made the switch from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf in June 2022.
Since then, he has become one of the sport’s standout personalities and has actually seen his game improve over time.
Even PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp recently called DeChambeau a “superstar”, and there is no doubt he thinks about what might have been if Bryson had stayed on the PGA Tour instead of joining LIV.
His powerful driving ability, developed through an intense speed training programme back in 2019, has left a mark on the game. Off the course, he has made a name for himself with his popular YouTube channel.
He was one of the first players from either tour to move into that space, helping him connect with fans and grow his brand beyond traditional golf media. He clearly understands how to reach younger audiences, something golf has not always done well.
As golf fans, it is truly a shame that we only get to witness him competing against the world’s elite at the four major championships each year.
LIV Golf could face a major issue if the PGA Tour act on Bryson DeChambeau
DeChambeau recently spoke out about the need for a resolution between LIV and the PGA Tour, saying the ongoing divide is not doing anyone any favours.
And if nothing changes soon, the two-time US Open champion could start getting seriously fed up.
That is when the PGA Tour might sense an opening to lure him back – and potentially deal LIV Golf a fatal blow in the process.
DeChambeau’s contract with LIV runs out at the end of the 2026 season.
If LIV still have not made any real headway in their fight for world ranking points by then, he could become an easy target for the PGA Tour.
Brian Rolapp is pushing to make the PGA Tour an even stronger product than it already is. And there is no doubt that bringing DeChambeau back into the fold would only boost their star power.
Bryson DeChambeau could spark a shift if the PGA Tour make their move
If the PGA Tour managed to lure DeChambeau away from LIV Golf, it could set off a wave of departures.
It is hard to imagine names like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Joaquin Niemann not following suit.
The issue with LIV Golf banking on one marquee player is that their entire set-up depends on him both sticking around and maintaining top form year after year.
And if DeChambeau did choose to leave, it would swing momentum back towards the PGA Tour in a big way.
Just think how great it would be to watch him face Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy every week instead of just at the majors.
The 32-year-old has made no secret of his frustration over the state of the game right now, and those running LIV Golf will be feeling uneasy about what happens when his contract ends.
DeChambeau’s focus may include building his brand online, but he still wants nothing more than to win more major titles – and that path gets harder without world ranking points.
That is why it makes sense for people in charge at the PGA Tour to stay alert. This is not an opportunity they will want to miss.
